Some of the highlights from today:
Table Time Math:
Science:
We learned more about the word ADAPTATION and read this book together. Let me tell you about some of the animals in this book and the ways they survive.
In computers we used our new passwords to log on to the computer and accepted the invitation to our new Grade 3 Google Classroom. We looked at the Grade 3 Sharing slides and discussed the importance of digital citizenship in only working on your own slide and not changing things in other student slides. You can find your slide with your name and pick 3 pictures to come share with us. Your slide is not due yet but you can work on it when you have time and we will start giving students an opportunity to share.
We finished our read aloud today and we were glad that in our book Hubie got picked for the baseball team.
Ask me about the Music game we played called 7
What a crazy busy Monday!
We worked hard this morning. This was our Table Time activity.
Ms. Seppala read this book to us and then we imagined where we could go if we could travel anywhere in the world. We even looked on Google Earth at Paris where Ms. Seppala had visited and Cape Town, South Africa where Mrs. McDougall is from.
We learned about using capital letters when writing the names of places. This is our writing checklist to help us focus on what good writers do.
We looked at patterns on the 100 chart and noticed that we can use that to understand bigger numbers.
Our afternoon was interrupted with a surprise fire drill. We did great for the first fire drill of the school year.
In science we listened to the book What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? We used our detective skills and figured out that we are going to be learning about animals and how their bodies are adapted to help them survive.
Happy Friday!
We took our interview questions and answers and created a paragraph.
We played Rock Paper Scissors in Phys Ed and made up movements for moving like animals. Let me show you how I can move like a scorpion.
Can you believe today was only our fifth day in school!
This morning we started the day with a math task at our tables. We had many ideas about the number that didn't fit in the group. Let me share what I thought.
During our read aloud of the book My New Teacher and Me we reviewed reading strategies to help with figuring out words (decoding). There were some crazy stories in this book.
Number Talk - we did our first Number Talk and practiced the procedure as well as using the strategy of Friendly Numbers.
Everyone was very excited that we were able to play on the park for recess today. It was the best!
We learned how to interview someone by practicing with our table partner. We learned interesting things about each other.
We spent the afternoon finishing our visual journal cover and playing a word game called Boggle.
We spent the last part of the day with Ms. Lysak learning about music terms.
Reminders:
Fridays are short days. Dismissal is at 11:45am.
Please return demographic and blue consent forms.
This morning's Read Aloud:
In writing we used these prompts to help us decide what to writ about. We reviewed using periods and capital letters at the beginning of sentences. A few students shared their writing and we gave them Stars and Wishes.
